How much do dueling pianos cost?

Modern Dueling Pianos two-piano setup

It is the first question almost everyone asks, so here is a straight answer. For a typical three-hour private show with two pianist-singers, two grand piano shells and a professional sound system in Northern California, a good ballpark is around $2,500. Your exact price depends on a few things, explained below, and we always confirm it in writing before you book.

What is included

Every two-piano show includes two pianist-singers, two piano shells with professional keyboards, a full sound system with subwoofer, stage lighting, and a wireless mic for toasts and announcements. Setup and teardown are on us, and so is managing the requests all night.

1. Show length

Most events book two to four hours. Three hours is the sweet spot for private parties and corporate events. Longer shows cost more, and shorter shows have a minimum.

2. Number of players

The classic show uses two players. For big rooms or festivals we can add a third player who rotates in, or add a drummer. For small parties, a solo pianist and singer (James Michael Day) is a lower-cost option.

3. Production

The standard rig covers most rooms. Very large ballrooms, outdoor festivals, or extra lighting and uplighting may add to the cost. If your venue has good house sound, we can sometimes use it.

4. Date and season

Saturdays in December and peak wedding months book first. Weeknights and off-season dates can be more flexible.

5. Travel

We are based in Northern California. Events farther away, such as Reno, Lake Tahoe or the far North Coast, include travel, and overnight trips may include lodging.

6. Load-in and timing

Long carries, stairs, early setup or a long gap between setup and showtime can add time. Tell us about the venue and we will plan for it.

Tips and requests

Guests often tip with requests. For private events, that is optional and up to you. Some fundraisers have us donate the request tips to the cause.

Deposits and contracts

We send a simple agreement that lists the date, times, show details and total price. A deposit holds your date, and the balance is due on or before the event day.

How to get an exact quote

Send us the date, city or venue, approximate guest count, event type and the hours you have in mind. If you have a budget range, share it, and we will tell you honestly what fits.

Comparing quotes

When you compare dueling piano companies, check what is actually included. Ask whether the price covers two players or one, real piano shells or keyboards on stands, a sound system sized for your room, lighting, setup time and travel. Ask who the players will be and whether you can see them perform live first. A lower price can mean fewer hours, a smaller rig or players you have never seen. You can see our show at public nights such as Mäkse in Vacaville or Faith & Spirits in San Carlos before you book.

Solo vs. duo at a glance

A solo pianist-singer suits ceremonies, cocktail hours and parties under about 75 guests. The two-piano show suits receptions, corporate parties and any crowd that wants to sing along.

Questions

Is $2,500 a fixed price?

No. It is a typical ballpark for a three-hour, two-piano private show in Northern California. Your quote can be higher or lower depending on the details above.

Is there a cheaper option?

Yes. A solo pianist and singer costs less and works well for smaller parties, ceremonies and cocktail hours.

Do you charge for travel?

Local events usually do not have a separate travel line. Longer trips such as Reno or Tahoe include travel in the quote.

How far in advance should we book?

Two to six months ahead is typical; holiday and wedding season dates go first.

Do you need a deposit?

Yes. A deposit holds your date, and the balance is due by the event.

Can we use your show for a fundraiser?

Yes. We can help boost the auction, and request tips can go to your cause.
