Dueling Pianos in Truckee and Incline Village: Mountain Parties, Ski-Season Events and Lake Tahoe Retreats

Modern Dueling Pianos indoor stage setup with grand piano shells

Truckee and Incline Village draw a certain kind of weekend. Guests fly into Reno, drive over Donner or Mount Rose, and end up in a mountain home, a lodge great room or a lakeside estate where everyone is ready for one real night together. A dueling piano show is built for that night: two pianist-singers, two pianos, full sound and lights, and a set list that comes from the people in the room.

Modern Dueling Pianos covers Truckee and Incline Village as part of our regular North Tahoe map. Co-founder James Michael Day is a former San Jose Sharks organist, and our team has already worked mountain rooms that matter up here. We played a dueling pianos wedding at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, and a corporate convention show for Asset Living at the Peppermill in Reno. Here is how the show fits a Truckee or Incline event, and what to plan for on the mountain.

What a dueling piano show is

Two pianist-singers face each other and the audience, and the guests pick the songs. Requests go up on slips of paper, the players trade songs, harmonize and occasionally fight over who gets the next one. There is no fixed set list, so a ski-week crowd gets whatever that room loves: Fleetwood Mac next to Taylor Swift, Elton John next to Mr. Brightside, and a sing-along that pulls the whole house in. It is a concert and a party at once.

Mountain events that fit

  • Estate and home parties. Big Truckee mountain homes and Incline lakefront houses often become the venue. Great rooms, terraces and lodge-style living spaces work well when there is a clear level spot for two pianos and a path for load-in. We plan from photos so stairs, snow at the door and neighbor-friendly volume are handled before the night starts. Our private party guide covers the guest-request side.
  • Ski-season and holiday parties. Groups who come up for a ski week or the holidays want more than another dinner reservation. After a day on the mountain, a two-piano sing-along in the house or lodge is the night people talk about on the drive home. December through March fills fast for Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Corporate retreats and offsites. Leadership groups and conference teams use North Tahoe for closing nights that feel like a celebration, not another session. We keep content clean, call out teams, and hand a mic to your host for announcements. For larger agendas, see our convention entertainment page — the Peppermill Reno Asset Living convention is a recent corporate proof point.
  • Mountain weddings. Resort ballrooms, lodge receptions and private celebrations across North Tahoe all work. Requests keep every generation on the floor, and we can learn your first dance or a family favorite ahead of time. The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe wedding we played with Joel Nelson is the mountain reference we lean on here. See dueling pianos for weddings.

Planning tips for Truckee and Incline Village

Build in mountain travel time. Winter dates can mean chain controls on I-80 over Donner Summit or a careful Mount Rose Highway drive into Incline. We plan extra travel time, arrive early and stay in touch with your planner if the forecast shifts.

Check HOA and sound curfews early. Many mountain neighborhoods and lakeside properties have quiet hours for amplified music. Tell us the address or venue rules and we will time the big finish before the cutoff, not after it.

Give us a level spot and power. The show needs a flat area about 16 by 12 feet with standard power. In a great room that is usually straightforward. On a deck or in a tent, a rented stage deck or a clear patio keeps the pianos steady.

Book early for ski season. December through March is peak for Truckee and Incline holiday parties, ski-week celebrations and New Year weekends. Friday and Saturday nights go first.

Solo piano and live piano karaoke

Not every mountain night needs two pianos. For a cocktail hour, welcome dinner or smaller gathering, James plays a solo piano and vocal show with the same all-request energy at a smaller footprint. We also offer live piano karaoke, where guests take the mic and sing with a live piano player instead of a backing track. It is a strong fit for retreat after-parties and family weekends where people want to be part of the show.

Areas we cover

We play Truckee, Incline Village, Kings Beach, Tahoe City, the Olympic Valley area, Martis Valley, Tahoe Donner and the broader North Lake Tahoe corridor, plus Reno and South Lake Tahoe when your weekend spans both sides of the lake. For the wider destination picture, see our Reno and Lake Tahoe page and Reno and Tahoe destination events. Pricing depends on date, show length and production; every quote is confirmed in writing. Our dueling pianos cost guide explains what goes into the price.
