Dueling Pianos for San Jose and Silicon Valley Corporate Events
San Jose and Silicon Valley corporate parties have a familiar problem. Teams arrive from different buildings, different product groups, sometimes different time zones. Everyone is polite. Networking stays surface-level. The playlist or DJ keeps the volume going, but the room never quite turns into one group celebrating the same night. That is the gap a dueling piano show is built to fill.
Modern Dueling Pianos covers San Jose and Bay Area corporate events as a regular part of our map. Co-founder James Michael Day is a former San Jose Sharks organist who played more than 500 NHL games at SAP Center, so South Bay rooms are home turf. Our performed-for list for tech and corporate teams includes Meta, Google and PayPal. Here is how the show fits a Silicon Valley company night, and what to plan for in hotel ballrooms, office atriums and conference evenings across the South Bay.
What a dueling piano show is
Two pianist-singers face each other and the audience, and the guests pick the songs. Requests go up on slips of paper. The players trade songs, harmonize and occasionally fight over who gets the next one. There is no fixed set list, so a mixed corporate crowd gets whatever that room loves: Journey next to Taylor Swift, Motown next to a current pop hit, and a sing-along that pulls engineering, sales and leadership into the same chorus. It is a concert and a party at once, without asking anyone to sit through a set they did not choose.
Corporate events that fit
- Holiday parties. December Fridays and Saturdays in Santa Clara and San Jose fill first. We keep the music softer during dinner and speeches, then open the floor to requests when the room is ready. Our guide to holiday party live entertainment covers the guest-request side.
- Team parties and offsites. Departments that barely share a lunchroom get a shared story when coworkers huddle over a request slip and cheer for the person who gets pulled up for a birthday or work anniversary.
- Client appreciation nights. Clients and partners need entertainment that feels generous, brand-safe and easy to join. Requests give every table a voice without putting anyone on the spot. See client appreciation event entertainment.
- Conference and convention evenings. After a day of sessions, attendees want a closing night that feels like a celebration, not another agenda block. We hand a mic to your host for awards and announcements, keep content clean, and build energy around your timeline. For larger agendas, see our convention entertainment page.
Planning tips for San Jose and the South Bay
Hotel ballrooms and office atriums both work. Santa Clara and San Jose hotel ballrooms, Palo Alto and Mountain View office atriums, and campus event spaces are all common. We bring two piano shells, full sound with a subwoofer, lighting and a wireless mic for executives, so your AV team has less to manage.
Give us a level spot and power. The show needs a flat area about 16 by 12 feet with standard power. We load in through a service entrance on your venue’s schedule and are set before guests arrive.
Keep it brand-safe. Corporate shows are clean by default. We can work in team names, award moments and inside jokes, and we stay on schedule around speeches and product moments. If you want a little more edge late in the night, just tell us.
Time the energy around the program. Arrivals and dinner stay conversational. After the CEO’s remarks or awards, we push into the big sing-alongs. Share your run-of-show early so the show supports the night instead of competing with it.
Book December early. South Bay holiday parties and year-end client nights lock in fast. Fridays and Saturdays go first.
Solo piano and live piano karaoke
Not every corporate night needs two pianos. For a cocktail hour, executive dinner or smaller offsite, James plays a solo piano and vocal show with the same all-request energy at a smaller footprint. We also offer live piano karaoke, where guests take the mic and sing with a live piano player instead of a backing track. It is a strong fit for after-parties and team nights where people want to be part of the show.
Areas we cover
We play San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Campbell and Los Gatos, plus the Peninsula and San Francisco when your guest list spans both sides of the Bay. You can catch a public Modern Dueling Pianos night at Faith & Spirits in San Carlos on select weekends. Pricing depends on date, show length and production; every quote is confirmed in writing. Our dueling pianos cost guide explains what goes into the price.
